✦ VERSION 1.3
Your AI tutor, and you talk to her out loud. Press the button and speak: Madame Poly hears you, answers in the language you are learning and quietly notes every mistake. At the end the mistakes become exercises, and the exercises a copybook you can print. Around the conversation she keeps a whole school: dictations, writing, vocabulary with flashcards, a grammar course unit by unit, and a mock speaking exam.
Speak and hear the answer. No keyboard in the way — the point is to get your tongue moving, not your thumbs.
A correction under the bubble shows what you said and what it should be. Tap the question mark for the rule and a full breakdown — in your own language.
At the end of a conversation the app builds exercises from what you actually got wrong: fill the gap, fix the sentence, translate. Never the same sentence twice.
Everything ever generated, grouped by lesson, exported to PDF with real writing lines under each task — made for a tablet and a stylus. Answers on a separate page.
A passage written to your CEFR level and read aloud — slower at A1, at native pace by C2. Six questions: pick, type, or answer out loud.
Thirty conversation topics plus four role-plays: the bank, the pharmacy, the doctor with a cold, and the appliance repair service. Or set your own subject.
Auto mode catches the pause in your speech itself. Turn it off and you mark the end of each phrase yourself — nobody cuts you off mid-sentence.
Finished conversations are kept with their corrections and their exercises, linked both ways. Come back to any of them.
Ask for a short writing task, write a few lines, and get your text back corrected, with every slip explained — then turned into exercises.
A vocabulary sheet for your level and topic, with IPA and her voice for every word. Flashcards, a ten-question quiz, and spaced review from ten minutes to two months.
A syllabus for your stage, as in a grammar book. Open a unit and she writes the rule with examples, a table, typical mistakes and ten exercises.
The speaking part at B1 or B2, in the style of the usual exam for each language: interview, long turn, discussion. No corrections along the way — a full review at the end.
Four steps, and the fourth is where the learning happens.
Press the bar and talk. The waveform inside it shows the microphone is open.
A reply at your level, out loud, in the language you are learning — and the conversation keeps going.
Under your bubble: what you said, what it should be, and the rule behind it if you want it.
Exercises built from those very mistakes, in new sentences — so you learn the rule, not the answer.
Nothing interrupts the conversation. The correction waits under your line, and the explanation waits behind the question mark.
English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese — from Portugal and from Brazil — and Ukrainian. Your level is remembered per language, so switching does not reset anything. For English you also choose the variety — British, American, or Cockney, where she answers in dialect but still corrects you toward standard English. The interface and every explanation come in your own language: English, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese or Korean.
Every exercise the app has ever built for you, grouped by lesson: language, topic, level, date. Open one to read it, or hold to select several and send them all into a single PDF.
The PDF is made to be worked on, not just read: continuous numbering, the rule and the hint above each task, two ruled lines to write on, and the answers on a page of their own. Print it, or open it on a tablet and write with a stylus.
A short passage on the topic you choose, written for your level and read aloud. The text stays hidden until you have answered — otherwise it is reading practice, not listening.
Four options, one right — and the wrong ones all mention things the passage really said.
Type a short answer. It is judged on meaning, not on matching a model word for word.
Answer out loud in a full sentence, exactly as in a conversation.
Listening cannot be paused. Leaving a dictation half-done counts as zero, so the average means something.
The conversation is the heart of the app and the most expensive part to run, so the plans differ mainly in how much you can talk. Prices are charged in your store’s currency.
One short conversation (8 replies) or exam a day with Madame Poly, plus a small monthly allowance for listening, writing, words and grammar.
No daily limit. A monthly allowance of about 20–30 conversations, with everything else included.
About 35–45 conversations a month, and Madame Poly speaks in one of four new, livelier voices of your choice.
The allowance is counted per calendar month and renews on the 1st; what is left over does not carry forward. Subscriptions renew automatically and are managed in the App Store or Google Play.
Everything the app does, in the order you will meet it.
A short film with Madame Poly opens the app; tap to skip it. Then the app asks for the microphone — without it there is nothing to talk into. The interface language is taken from your device: English, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese or Korean, with English as the fallback. Corrections and hints are written in that same language.
Start here: open the house, go to Settings, choose a language and a level, pick a topic, then go back to Talk and press Start talking. Madame Poly introduces herself on the empty screen.
The house in the top left opens the list of sections — a panel that slides in from the left edge of the screen — from the everyday to the occasional: Talk, Listen, Write, Words, Grammar, Exam, Copybook and Settings. Each opens as a screen of its own, with its own glowing title.
In the conversation header on the right — the button that sends a finished conversation to the archive, and the sun-and-moon switch between the light and dark themes.
The wide bar at the bottom starts and ends the conversation. Inside it, on the left, is the AUTO switch — an ordinary toggle, like the one for notifications.
To end a conversation in auto mode, hold the bar: the first long press leaves auto, the second closes the conversation. In auto the microphone reopens on its own, so one press would never be enough.
A mistake appears under your bubble as a struck-out original and a corrected version. The ? next to it opens the rule and the detailed breakdown, written in your interface language.
Nothing is interrupted for a correction: the conversation goes on, and you read them when you choose.
When a conversation has mistakes in it, a strip above the chat says so — “3 mistakes in this conversation — worth working through”. Tap it: Madame Poly takes the mistakes you actually made and builds five to ten exercises: fill the gap, fix the sentence, translate.
The sentence from the conversation is never reused — the same rule comes back in a new sentence, so you learn the rule rather than memorise the answer. Each exercise carries the mistake it grew from and is named after the grammar unit it belongs to, so it still reads on its own years later.
The Copybook section collects every set of exercises ever built — from conversations, from writing — newest first, one row per lesson: language, topic, level, how many tasks, and the date.
The file is named Copybook Poly_ddmm_N.pdf, where N is how many exercises are inside — easy to find later in your downloads.
Open Listen from the house. Choose a topic and Madame Poly writes a passage for your level and reads it aloud — slower at A1, at natural pace by C2; picking another topic rewrites it at once.
Six questions follow: two to pick from a list, two to type, two to answer out loud. Choices are checked on the spot; written and spoken answers are judged on meaning, so different wording is fine.
There is no pause button — that is the exercise. Leaving a dictation before you check it counts as zero in the average, and the app warns you before it does.
Settings hold the language and level, the topic, the English variety, Madame Poly’s voice, her speech rate — slower, normal, faster or “like me”, where she moves towards your own pace — and the text size. Below them: profile, account and sync, subscription, archive and reminders, with one switch that turns all notifications off.
The archive button in the conversation header (the box, top right) works in two ways. A tap after a finished conversation puts it away with its corrections and exercises, clears the feed for a new one and shows “Conversation archived”. A long press opens the archive itself. The number on the button is how many conversations are stored; while there is nothing to put away the button is dimmed, and a tap simply opens the archive. The archive can also be reached from Archive in the settings: open any conversation with its corrections and homework, or delete it. In Profile you set your name — Madame Poly calls you by it now and then — and pick an avatar or upload your own photo.
At the very bottom of the settings a small bar, About Madame Poly, opens upwards: privacy, terms, the website, and how to write to us.
Writing is the one place where you can take your time over a sentence. In Write, ask for a task: Madame Poly sets a short piece for your level and topic and says roughly how many words she expects; a counter keeps track as you type.
Press Check my writing and she reads it: every slip marked and explained, and the whole text given back corrected. One more press turns the mistakes into exercises in the copybook.
Changing the task throws away what you have written — check it first if you want it read.
In Words Madame Poly compiles a vocabulary sheet for your level and topic: words in groups, phrasal verbs from B1 in English, ready-made phrases, a short dialogue and example sentences. Tap a word to hear it; tick the ones you already know. Four pages under the topic:
Reminders in the settings can nudge you to review at 10:00 and 19:00, and to practise at a time you choose. Words works for all eight languages; in German, French, Italian and Portuguese nouns come with their article, and in German with the plural.
Grammar follows a syllabus for your stage — A1–A2, B1–B2 or C1–C2 — module by module and unit by unit, as in a grammar book. Open a unit and press Write the lesson: Madame Poly explains the rule, shows the forms in a table, lists the typical mistakes and gives ten exercises.
New exercises gives a fresh ten on the same rule; Mark as done ticks the unit off, and the progress line shows how far through the course you are.
Ukrainian is one continuous course, the way it is taught to foreign students, with no stages.
A lesson takes up to a minute to write — she thinks before she explains. Once written, it stays on the phone.
Exam is a mock of the speaking part at B1 or B2, in the style of the usual exam for each language — Cambridge for English, Goethe for German, DELF for French, DELE for Spanish, CILS for Italian, CAPLE for Portuguese. Brazilian Portuguese (Celpe-Bras) and Ukrainian have a single exam without the B1/B2 switch. Pick a topic; the examiner leads three parts: a few questions about you, a long turn, and a discussion.
The examiner is not Madame Poly: no corrections along the way, never a “good answer”. Press Finish and review and the examiner reads the whole transcript: mistakes by category — grammar, vocabulary, collocation, fluency — and what to work on next. Past sessions stay in the list.
For the long turn, switch AUTO off: a pause to think will not hand the floor to the examiner. An exam counts as one conversation of the day.
Without a subscription you get one short conversation (8 replies) or exam a day and a small monthly allowance for everything else. Pro removes the daily limit; Max gives a larger monthly allowance and a choice of Madame Poly’s voice. Subscription in the settings shows your plan and how much of this month’s allowance is used.
In Max, the voice row in the settings offers four: Bright, Warm, Calm and Soft. Tap one to hear it say hello in the language you are learning, at your chosen pace; the same voice speaks every language. Without Max the row is dimmed and opens the plans.
When the monthly allowance runs out, the app says so and waits for the 1st of the next month.

Madame Poly (the “App”), made by Kuka Lab, is an AI tutor for practising English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Ukrainian. This policy explains what the App sends where, what it keeps, and what it never collects.
An AI tutor cannot work entirely offline, and we would rather say so plainly. Every request goes first to our relay server — a function we run on Google Cloud (Firebase) in the EU — which holds the service keys and passes the request on:
The relay does not store your recordings or your texts. OpenAI and Anthropic process them under their API terms: they do not use them to train models and may keep them for a limited period (typically up to 30 days) for abuse and safety monitoring.
On first use the App signs in to Firebase Authentication anonymously: it receives a random identifier that carries no name, email or device details. The relay uses it for one thing — to count how much of this month's allowance you have used. That counter (an amount and a month) is kept in Cloud Firestore under the identifier.
Without an account your study material stays on the phone: conversations, corrections, exercises, copybook, listening scores, writing, vocabulary sheets and review queue, grammar lessons, exam sessions, archive, name, avatar or photo, chosen language, level, voice and settings. Reminders are scheduled on the device; no push server is involved. Deleting the App deletes all of it.
An account is optional. The App works fully without one, and it is never asked for.
When you create one, an email address and a password are handled by Firebase Authentication. Kuka Lab never sees the password: it is set and checked by Google. From then on the study data listed in section 4 is mirrored to Cloud Firestore under your account, so that it appears on every device you sign in on.
Signing out stops the syncing and leaves the data on the device. To delete the account and everything stored with it, write to kukalab@icloud.com — we remove it and confirm.
Subscriptions are bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play; Kuka Lab never receives your card or billing details. Subscription status is checked through RevenueCat, which receives the identifier from section 3 (or your account's) and the store's purchase record, and nothing else.
No contacts, no location, no advertising identifier, no third-party analytics, no crash reports, no tracking. The avatar photo itself never leaves the device, even with an account.
The App is suitable for any age, but a child's speech is transmitted for recognition like anyone else's. Parents should read section 2 before handing it over.
This policy will be updated as the App changes. Any change appears on this page with a new date.

By downloading or using Madame Poly you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Kuka Lab grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence for your own non-commercial study.
You may not:
The interface, artwork, illustrations, texts and grammar syllabi belong to Kuka Lab. The icon and Madame Poly's portrait were created with the help of AI and belong to Kuka Lab. Replies, corrections, exercises, dictations, vocabulary sheets and lessons are generated for you at the moment of use, and you may use them for your own study.
The App is for language practice. Do not use it to generate unlawful or harmful content, and do not speak or write into it anything you would not want sent for processing — see the Privacy Policy, section 2.
Without a subscription the App gives one short conversation (8 replies) or exam a day and a small monthly allowance for the other sections. The paid plans — Pro and Max — remove the daily limit and give a larger monthly allowance; Max also offers a choice of voices. The allowance is counted per calendar month, renews on the 1st and does not carry over; when it runs out, the App stops generating until then. The scope of each plan is described in the App and on this site and may be adjusted with notice.
A subscription is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account on confirmation of purchase, renews automatically unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and can be changed or cancelled at any time in your store account settings. Refunds follow the policies of Apple and Google; Kuka Lab does not process payments.
The App depends on third-party services (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, RevenueCat). If one of them is unavailable, parts of the App may not work for a while.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kuka Lab's total liability for any claim arising from the App or these terms will not exceed the subscription fees you actually paid in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim.
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Kuka Lab is registered, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence.

Madame Poly is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. Kuka Lab does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Madame Poly is an artificial intelligence, not a person. Her replies, corrections, exercises, dictations, vocabulary sheets, transcriptions, grammar lessons and exam reviews are produced by a language model. They are usually right and occasionally not. Treat a correction you disagree with as a prompt to check a grammar reference, not as a verdict.
The voice you hear is generated by AI (OpenAI text-to-speech). It is not a recording of a human being, and it does not imitate any real person.
The Exam section is practice in the style of well-known speaking exams. It is not an official test, gives no certificate, and its review does not predict your result in a real exam. Cambridge, Goethe-Zertifikat, DELF and DELE are trademarks of their respective owners; Kuka Lab is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
The App is a practice partner. It does not replace a qualified teacher, a structured course, or an examination preparation programme.
To the extent permitted by law, Kuka Lab is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from use of the App. In any case, total liability is limited to the subscription fees paid in the twelve (12) months before the claim.
By using Madame Poly you confirm that you have read and accept this disclaimer.
